The DoD Small Rewards Program in use by the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan resulted in 1,265 munitions being found April thru June 2010. Representing approximately 3.5-percent of the total U.S. forces in Afghanistan, the CJSOTF-A SRP accounted for 23-percent of the more than $363-thousand paid out for tips leading to weapons caches during this same time period. The munitions in this photo were a part of a weapons cache found April 26, 2010 in Wardak province. The Ministry of Interior and ISAF combined force recovered a cache containing four 107mm rockets and one fuse, two 76mm recoilless rockets, two .22calibre pistols and magazines, two improvised explosive devices, one .303calibre rifle with a loaded magazine and one box of machine gun ammunition. Weapons captured by Afghan National Security Forces and Australian Special Forces from the Special Operations Task Group during the Shah Wali Kot Offensive. Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) partnered with Australian Special Forces from the Special Operations Task Group conducted a deliberate operation to clear a Taliban insurgent stronghold in the Shah Wali Kot region of northern Kandahar province. The Shah Wali Kot Offensive comprised synchronised and deliberate clearance operations involving Australian Commandos combined with a number of surgical helicopter-born assaults from Special Air Service (SAS) troops on key targets. Removing Taliban insurgents from Afghan communities allows the Government of Afghanistan to establish a presence and gain the trust of the community to provide them with necessary infrastructure and security that was not provided by the insurgents. HERAT, Afghanistan (July, 9) – The partnership between Afghan National Security Forces and troops of ISAF Regional Command West led today to the seizure of a huge ammunition cache in Moqur District, Badghis province.178 82mm mortar shells in perfect conditions.

An Afghan and coalition security force killed Malauwi Shahbuddin, a dual-hatted Taliban commander and foreign fighter facilitator, along with several armed insurgents as they were emplacing an IED in Shah Joy district in northeastern Zabul province yesterday. The insurgents were equipped with machine guns, IED construction materials, RPG launchers with rockets and grenades. Additionally, IED making materials, hand grenades, various small arms, RPG launchers, and multiple RPG rockets along with two motorcycles laden with explosives were found during the subsequent search of the area. The security force destroyed the weapons and motorcycles at the scene. (DoD photo)
