KABUL, Afghanistan (June 1) The Ministry of Women's Affairs (MOWA) officially named June 1st as Children's Day throughout Afghanistan. In honor of this newly appointed day, there was a ceremony held for the children and in return the children sang and preformed a play for the audience. The children were given school supplies, toys, candy and clothes. Also, to celebrate this day a park was opened. 081120-N-6651N-066 KABUL, AFGHANISTAN - Children burned from improvised explosive devices placed in the ground by Afghanistan's enemies of peace, or from kerosene lamps that burst in their homes, receive care at the Indira Ghandi Institute of Child's Health, the only pediatric hospital in the country, located in Kabul. The recovery for these children is dependent on international aid donations. The hospital receives $400 a month to run the entire place, not merely the burn ward. The children's burn ward is a regular recipient of medical supplies brought in by International Security Assistance Force volunteers. CHAGHCHARAN, Afghanistan--A local village child poses for a photo while members of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) team assigned to Camp Whiskey give out school supplies at the site of a future park.
