Do You Like Online Privacy? You May Be a Child Pornographer

Online surveillance critics siding with child porn: Toews (CBC):
Critics of a bill that would give law enforcement new powers to access Canadians’ electronic communications are aligning themselves with child pornographers, Canada’s public safety minister says. “He can either stand with us or with the child pornographers,” Vic Toews said of Liberal public safety critic Francis Scarpaleggia during question period on Monday, after Scarpaleggia asked about a bill expected to be tabled Tuesday.
The “Act to enact the Investigating and Preventing Criminal Electronic Communications Act and to amend the Criminal Code and other acts” appeared Monday on the parliamentary website that lists bills scheduled to be introduced.
The bill is expected to contain provisions from previous similar bills that have raised the concerns of privacy watchdogs and consumer advocates. Those “lawful access” provisions would:
- Require internet service providers to give subscriber data to police and national security agencies without a warrant, including names, unlisted phone numbers and IP addresses.
- Force internet providers and other makers of technology to provide a “back door” to make communications accessible to police.
- Allow police to get warrants to obtain information transmitted over the internet and data related to its transmission, including locations of individuals and transactions.
- Allow courts to compel other parties to preserve electronic evidence.

He’s right.
Getting damned tired of this ‘pollitical dissident’ argument, “OH NO! If we do anything at all to interfere with Criminals ability to communicate freely and trade data…we’re supporting a budding dictatorship!”
Well frankly, things like 4chan, .onion services, ‘Anonymous’, Occupy…they’re not exactly giving us a positive example of ‘The People’ and ‘The Benefits of Anonymity’.
Tired of the political dissidents argument? How about asking the people of Syria, Egypt, Tunisia, China, and Iran their opinion?
Use your right to anonymity or you won’t have it anymore when you need it the most.
Anonymous exists for a reason. When the internet can be modeled more humanely, democratically, and naturally; things will get better. Right now as it is, it’s like a free for all wild west scenario it seems, where the unknowing are caught in the crossfire, etc. I hope Anonymous uses their freedoms and abilities wisely so that the public doesn’t turn against them. I hope the govs. of the world use their freedom and abilities wisely so that the public doesn’t turn against them. No one is perfect, and no one likes a dictator. I’d say more, but what good would it do.
“stand with us or with the child pornographers”
where have we heard a version this before.
It’s not a argument nor question, It’s neither Truth nor Fact.
How Politician!
It IS… Dictator-esk and straight from there friend Goebbels book.
This isn’t just a Canadian Politician PLOY.
